With only a mere 17 days separating this from the last number on the setlist of this ongoing solo acoustic gig, Tom was once again in a mood to perform. It must be great to be able to "tour" this way, with all your home comforts and family around. No festival toilets/showers that were so loathed by Mr Urbanowicz, the absence of tourbus flatulence, access to food you love whenever you want it, your own bed (with accompanying regular sleep patterns) and most importantly access to your recording setup, should inspiration come a-knocking.
This time Mr Smith chose another song from the latest Smith and Burrows album, but not one that was part of the media blitz which accompanied that record's initial release.With the lengthy intermission that preceded it, you would have credibly thought that maybe these Instagram vignettes were purely a March 2021 thing, and that it had defined bookends on the 1st and 31st of that month. After that, more Editors Waiting (c). Now that he's started again, even though you could argue that he never officially finished, Tom has re-ignited the debate of what he'll choose to play next...if there is a next, of course. Given the past year of total uncertainty, this doubt seems very appropriate.
Remember that Editors' body of work is substantial, and so if he carries on we may get yet more rarities. The other videos he's done have all had a feeling that they were selected rather than just spontaneous, with all the more obvious possibilities being overlooked (Munich, Papillon, Formaldehyde etc). As I've said before, I like where this is going and I'd love to see more.
Also, there's bonus points to be had for managing to work the word "echinacea" into the lyrics, no small feat. Enjoy the music ;)
