What is This Thing Called Love (Acoustic) 6th March 2021

You know how it is. You're exercising your imagination by making shapes from the passing clouds while you patiently wait out another Editors Absence, (which you shouldn't confuse with an Editors Abscess which is far more icky and painful), and all of a sudden the inactivity is halted by...this. Taken from The Weight of Your Love album, which some history buffs will suggest was Editors' very own begotten son, this is Tom providing an unexpected end to a seemingly interminable drought. I say this with the respect that its author deserves, and I really do mean that,  but  purely in terms of Editors fandom this is the purity of product that Smith and Burrows only partially delivers.

Maybe Tom specifically choosing to randomly play this song and put it out into the ether speaks to his current mainstream-pop disposition that the "Smith and Burrows Therapy Sessions" have allowed him to occupy? Editors have a catalogue of more predictable targets that he could have chosen but he tackles one of their most tricky, falsetto-heavy commercially minded ones instead.

It's a grand proclamation, but I think this is the best version of the song that we have with regards to its simplicity and delivery. It carries on the lineage of pretty much all of Editors' music, in that transforms into something else when it leaves the studio. Enjoy the music ;)
