Well, this is rapidly becoming "a thing"...
Tom dropped another acoustic recording on his Instagram channel today
and this time, as with What is This Thing Called Love previously, it's
another less obvious choice of song from the back catalogue. Reduced to
the bare, skeletal components, this is one of the frigid electronic
highlights from In This Light and on This Evening, but played here in
the most direct way possible.
What I find interesting about this clip is that he seems to be trying to
contain some serious pent up energy. It feels very similar to when he
used to play Like Treasure circa 2009-2010, and he was tied to a
keyboard for the whole song. The restriction of movement just appeared
to make him more animated while being frustratingly shackled at the same
time. This time it's the guitar that's curtailing his ability to
explore the space around him during the performance.
He's promised more tomorrow, I can't wait to see what he chooses next.
