Editors Instagram - January 2017

Margot - Lucky Lady!

January was another month of very little Editors activity, leading to another digital drought of social media treasures to collect and assemble, but there were 2 significant developments in the band's absence.

The first was ARTE finally making the broadcast date for that concert we've all been waiting for official on their site. Quite why this was held back for so long is puzzling unless they're using it to re-introduce themselves to the world, as a prelude their forthcoming festival shows by airing it a little closer to the dates? Like any of us would have forgotten about them...
The second notable occurrence concerned the ripples that are still rolling ashore after In Dream dropped into the sullen black oceans of pop back in October of 2015. A song which may have been nothing more than a working title turned out to be a fully written, recorded piece of music. It was called Dream Dark as Your Heaven and it was one of the Lost Tracks from the band's 5th studio album. Only two people in the world have a copy of the song, and this month Studio Brussel decided to let everyone know who one of those lucky cats were. Congratulations to you again, Margot. I'm envious as hell but thrilled for you at the same time.

Right here at the beginning of February, however, there's still no sign of the song being released to a larger and anxiously attentive crowd, but I don't believe that this is a permanent arrangement. I maintain my opinion that this tune will surface at some point, if for no other reason than they'll probably get sick of being asked about it and relent. Unless of course there's some bigger plan in mind that we're not aware of involving this track, which is possible. They're a devious bunch and they've been known to mess with their fans' minds on the odd occasion.

I remember they were hassled for months on end to release the Forest Fire demos when the official forum was still running. Later on, after some shady behind the scenes persuasion and negotiations took place, the mp3s miraculously found their way into our hands courtesy of a mystery donor who moved them onto the boards for downloading.

(legal disclaimer, I'm not in any way advocating hassling the band!)

I'm merely pointing out that the precedents set prior to this would indicate that they're not the kind of band to lock stuff up in vaults forever. I find it difficult to accept that they're happy with a song they put time and effort into creating being so restricted in its availability. After all, isn't the whole point of being in a band to make sure as many people as possible hear what you've written? I guess we'll see. And wait. And then probably wait some more.

In terms of actual Instagram action this month, it's sparse.  But I do have Mr Smith minus his facial furnishings, Lay and Burrows beside the christmas tree and Mr Urbanowicz sledging down a hill in a small blue plastic tub, all overseen by Cliff the Doodle. If you want, you can have. Enjoy ;)
