This is the final Editors Instagram collection for 2016 and, as promised, I've put everything they posted last year in a single zip file. Each month has it's own folder but you'll notice that there isn't one for February. The reason being that there was just a single photo posted during that month so there was no zip to download. More details here.
Because of the reduced band activity this month, it was Tom who provided the most material as part of his own Instagram profile. A brief scan of that page reveals that he's also changed his personal description to:-
bleakness / banter / birmingham boy band
Which is far more sedate and tasteful than :-
As well as being laser guided in its descriptive accuracy, the former proclamation will be far easier to deliver on than the latter, I reckon.
Perhaps the most significant event of December was one of the mythical In Dream Lost Tracks surfacing, and in the nicest way possible. It started with 2 short promo films by Mr Smith. One was for 3FM's Serious Request and the other was him apologising for Editors not being able to take part in the Music For Life festivities this year in aid of Oxfam. Here are the two clips, compare and contrast:-

During the course of the videos he casually dropped the news that an unheard song by the band had been pressed up on vinyl and was being made available. That's exciting enough, but it then emerges that the song in question is one of the lost In Dream tracks from the Crear sessions. For all we knew Dream Dark as Your Heaven could have just been a working title, perhaps even an alternative name for a song that got released under another identity. As it happens, it was a finished product and was being released from its confinement. Only 2 clear vinyl copies of the song had been created, one for 3FM and the other for Music for Life and they were both individually numbered. The one for 3FM actually has their logo on it, visible in the second of two photos below:-
Copy number one was given away via StuBru where listeners had to text their details, donating a Euro to Oxfam in the process, and hoping to be picked as a winner. 3FM used a conventional auction format to move their single.

A pressing point around all of this is whether or not Dream Dark as Your Heaven will receive a wider release? It's probably safe to say that whoever won the competition isn't anyone familiar to the fanbase, otherwise I feel like we would have had an MP3 by now, so it remains unheard by the faithful. Entering a new year with this knowledge is an itch I can't scratch, and it's messing with my ordinarily mellow disposition. However, I think there's still hope.
When the band put out a limited run of Last Day 7 inch singles as part of the record store day celebrations of April 2010, the song became more freely available in part 1 of the You Are Fading digital collection that accompanied the Unedited box set. They've also made some of their more rare songs available as extra tracks on Japanese editions of their albums (A Thousand Pieces on AEHAS, for example), so precedent suggests that they're not the type to leave us hanging. I want to hear Dream Dark as Your Heaven, hopefully the chance to do so will come sooner rather than later.
Another question that has been bugging me for the past couple of weeks concerns the video of Editors' Berlin Schwuz gig. If you remember, ARTE were due to stream it at the very end of December, which would have meant seeing in the new year on excellent style. However, substantive rumours suggest that the show has now been rescheduled for airing in February instead, seven months after it was recorded. Why the hold up, I wonder?
There's three links below to choose from, one contains the entries for December only, the second has all the material from 2016 (including December) and the third is a link to last years stuff. Happy New Year everyone, I hope that 2017 brings you lots of what you need and none of what you don't ;)
