Welcome back Mr Rezvani
April turned out to be an active time for Editors, offering us answers to a couple of the more pressing questions surrounding them. The first was whether or not Rahi would be working with them again on the campaign for E6? Late into the month he confirmed it with some story videos on his Instagram account, and then some black and white snaps appeared taken by him of each individual Editor. All are included here in the zip, thanks to some last minute assistance by Hannah at Editors' unofficial forum. Like me, she has a good understanding of the importance of a "complete collection". Thanks again, Hannah ;)
There was a theory circulating that they were doing a little bit more than simply rehearsing in Oxford, with some sort of recording possibly taking place. The photos shared by Mr Rezvani were all tagged "Recording E6", would seem to confirm the theory and there was also a small clue from Mr Smith. Prior to this month all the pictures he took in Oxford were tagged with "band practice", but after Rahi revealed his involvement again there was a subtle tag change to "Actual Band Practice" on one of the next images. Lies, Sir! Lies! Gloomy deception abounds...
The fact that Editors' impending festival season starts today, with the band playing their first date in Italy at Primo Maggio Festival, offers another line of inquiry; what will the setlist look like? We already know about The Pulse, but if they've been recording and practicing there's every likelihood that some new songs might be due for a road-test. Maybe we'll finally get to hear Dream Dark as Your Heaven? By the way, it still hasn't been released to the rest of us yet in case you were wondering. Nope. No sign of it at all. I have a really, really long memory for these things don't I?
April also saw the announcement that Editors will be headlining the Beyond the Tracks festival in Birmingham during September, making it a hometown affair for the group. As Mr Smith himself says on an Instagram post he did for the festival's flyer:-
"especially excited for this one"
The running order reveals that they're playing on the same day as both Slowdive and The Jesus and Mary Chain, and the possibilities that presents are intriguing, to say the least. It's a similar kind of lineup that wouldn't have looked out of place on the Mary Chain's Rollercoaster tour of 1992, where 4 bands took to the road as a package tour live event, to offer some value for money to the gig-going punters of the day. The three bands listed above in such close proximity offers an instance in time that could be used for all kinds of fun.

Let's suspend all actual realities for a second and just have some barber shop talk about the kinds of things that could, hypothetically of course, take place on the 17th September 2017. There's certainly an established link between Slowdive and Editors in the form of La Goswell and Mr Lockey, who moonlights in Minor Victories, so there's a channel of communication open right there already. Other than Nick Chaplin declaring his fanhood by wearing a JAMC t-shirt while touring there's no obvious connection by either group to the Mary Chain...or is there? The one thing that unites all of them is that they have all worked with Alan Moulder, so there is some common ground to be found.
The linchpin to any potential inter-band shenanigans would seem to be La Goswell. Not only could she finally perform with Editors on either The Law or Ocean of Night, but she could also take to the stage and do Just Like Honey or Sometimes Always with the Jesus and Mary Chain. There's also a chance for one or more members of each band to play in another group. Tom doing vocals on Some Candy Talking or April Skies? William Reid adding guitar to Bones or Escape the Nest? Jim Reid singing You Trip Me Up with Slowdive providing the music? Tom joining Slowdive to do Joy etc etc. If you unhook your imagination and let it go running then there are so many narratives here, most of which contain the sounds of guitars played at a ridiculous volume.
In the interests of injecting a little reality into proceedings, the chances of any of this becoming a reality are disappointingly slim. For any of it to even be considered you have to subscribe to the notion that all the bands involved know each other and get along, something that is seldom the case. Plus, they have to be open to this kind thing which they might not be in the slightest. It sure is fun to daydream, though.
