The first month of 2023 was all about the gigs.
There was a long stretch to kick things off last October, and then some down-time of almost 3 months until the end of January this year. Would that break in momentum and energy would lessen the audience's enthusiasm for the new compositions when Editors finally returned to the stage? There was also the question of how the band would look after making the decision to tour in bursts rather than the long, creativity-destroying stretches of their past. Would the collective fires be dimmed from the process of playing for a short interval and then stopping, as opposed to the stamina forged and maintained from prolonged touring?
It seems that the opposite has turned out to be true; what we've seen and heard lately is that all this time between shows has instead been used as energy management, and appears to have only made everyone in the band refreshed and fired-up to play. Also, from the recordings that I've listened to from the latest dates, the touring schedule doesn't seem to have muted the public reception for the more recent songs. Check it out for yourself by listening to Gary's recordings of Manchester and Nottingham.
A lingering question was answered this month about just what Tom was working on with Luca D'Alberto, as We Fall In was officially announced. What's funny about this situation, is that it was first hinted at in September of 2018, and then again in January of last year. In total, it's taken about 4 and a half years to get done which is crazy. Still, there have been one or two other things going on in that time to slow the roll, sort of speak.
There was a remix of Vibe released by touring partners KVB on the 27th to see out the month, and then after Glasgow and Ireland it was on to the remaining dates in London, Bristol and Turkey. After that, there's nothing to do as a fan but wait for the summer and any impending announcements that could be coming our way. There's still the return to Mexico which has yet to be made official, hope you folks don't end up waiting too long. Enjoy ;)
