Editors Instagram - January 2022

Not a lot to say about Editors right now, but it does seem that a certain side project that was first mentioned in an interview with Supereva magazine in 2018 may at last be with us. Tom had intimated his appreciation for an Italian musician and multi-instrumentalist called Luca D'Alberto, actually recommending him to the interviewer. In the overall scope of the encounter, this exchange probably only lasted about a minute, but Mr Smith also said that they had been writing together but he didn't know what would be happening with the results. Well, on the 15th of January 2022 the name Luca D'Alberto resurfaced and it's looking like we might finally get to hear what they began working on 4 years ago. It should be noted that Tom posted photographs from Rome this month, meaning he's likely been involved in more creative constructions or preparations recently.

The most obvious question here is what form this new music will take. Will it be another collaboration in the style of Smith and Burrows, with each artiste having equal billing, or will it be a Luca D'Alberto record featuring Tom Smith? There is a golden opportunity for delicious irony (it tastes like smoked olives) right in front of them if they decide to take it:-

"Smith and D'Alberto"
Acronym...."SAD"

Too perfect.

If the agonizing speculation about Editors seventh record and Tom's plans elsewhere weren't intriguing enough, there's also still the unresolved mystery of the electronic "Lockdown album" that he wrote with two other people some time during the reign of covid and its many wonderful variants. Given what's in play, I feel like the term "hiaitus" has been interpreted in a very flexible way here. The meagre evidence we have alludes to a lot going on during this perceived down time for Editors, and we may well be in for a deluge of content when this invisible levy breaks. The trick is predicting when that will happen. As I don't possess the necessary supernatural fortune-telling abilities, at least not yet, we get the endless pleasure of waiting endlessly to find out what's next. Fun!

Before I sign off on this brief missive, there was some news relating specifically to the Archive on YouTube recently that both amazed and startled me at the same time:-

Apparently, and using my very basic mathematics, that means people have spent a total of 4,166 days watching videos relating to Editors on the channel. It works out at just over 11 years. Wow.

Enjoy the handful of snaps from January 2022.
