Bristol Marble Factory 2nd February 2023 (Petrock2000 Recording)

Photo from the night also by Petrock. A busy, busy dude.

Here's another recording from a friend and previous contributor to the Archive, Petrock2000. I reached out to him and he's agreed to allow me to share it here at the Archive. Many thanks to you again for your kindness, all files are being shared in their original FLAC format in accordance with the taper's wishes.

The origins for this collection were the in-ear monitors used by the band on stage, as well as some audience capture mixed in. Owing to the nature of the music being played, especially the most recent songs, there are times when the overwhelming combination of crowd and band together can sometimes result in a mix of sound where it's difficult to discern each element. Given the method employed here to isolate each of the respective source materials, you can hear everything.  This includes the click-track in places that keeps everyone in sync which, even if you were to view it as the negative trade-off for such an excellent piece of audio memorabilia, I still fully accept if it means I get to enjoy things like:-
  • A total loss of lyrics during verse 2 of Fingers (and the accompanying micro-laugh about it, as well as speculation that it's time for auto-cue)
  • The werewolf howls during Picturesque
  • The little preparatory "OK" Tom says at the start of Strange Intimacy like he's ready to get going, and the ominous freestyled ending of "This party is over...and I know it" like he's ready to leave.
  • Elliott's "All this silence" and Justin's guitar in that same song

More than anything, it allows you to get closer to what was the original intention of the band before EBM was even written; namely to manufacture an atmosphere through electronics where you can go and dance to Editors' music (rather than collectively use each other's shoulders to sob on).

After listening to EBM many, many times now (live and studio versions), I've noticed that the pace of Editors' music has accelerated over time. It seemed to have dropped back a little around the time of TWOYL, before gradually increasing in momentum across In Dream and Violence. If this continuation in tempo continues, they'll be heading towards becoming that mythical thrash-metal side-project of Tuxedo Speedo sooner than later...

Enjoy the music ;)
