Editors Instagram - May 2018

May had some amazing moments, but it carried a shadow.

It was a long time coming but the band finally made the journey back to the United States and Mexico. This was a rescheduled tour to compensate for the February/March dates of 2016 that were cancelled due to Mr Smith's ill health. It meant that the gap between them actually gigging in States before and now was approximately 8 years. Every engagement was met, and I felt that I could actually hear the audible sigh of relief from American fans when it did. As such, there's a lot of photos and Instagram story videos from their time in the U.S. and they're all included here in the zip. There were also a few bootlegs and radio sessions from their time overseas, and you can check them out using the Archive's Index Page for 2018

After they returned to the U.K. at the very end of May, they commenced the summer festival campaign at Neighbourhood Weekender. This is just the first stop on a series shows that stretch across three months, concluding right at the tail end of August. It's a chance for the band to leave the dark confines of the clubs they've been playing and finally get some sunshine. Horrible, horrible sunshine.

It would be remiss of me not to mention something else that happened this month, the death of Scott Hutchison who took his own life on the 10th May 2018. As you know, his connection to Editors was in his collaboration with Justin as part of Mastersystem and it's horrible to think that just as they were getting started, it's all over. Ironically, the topic of mental health and musicians was addressed specifically by Mr Lockey in an interview that same month. If you live long enough you see this kind of thing happen a lot and I can assure you, it never gets easier to take or feel less sad about. All that's left is just loss, helplessness and a frustration of what could have been.

I would say to anyone that feels they may be heading down a similar path, please talk to someone. I think you would be surprised at the amount of people who are willing to help. It was something that was apparent when Scott first disappeared, that people re-tweeted the missing poster in huge numbers and offered support not only to Scott himself but also to his family and friends. Complete strangers who were effected by what they heard and wanted to do what they could to assist. As a species we would never have evolved and come as far as we have without mutual support and kindness and as alone as you may feel at times, I promise you that there are people who will listen. There's literally nothing to lose by trying, but so very much to gain.
