"I breed, like a million hares..."
The last 28 days were full of forward motion and laying the groundwork for the release of VI OLENCE in March. As has so often been the case, questions were answered but also the seeds of new inquiries were sewn. The following is a summary of all the fun of February 2018.
The 5th saw two photographs of Tom with Unkle, which is intriguing to say the least. James Lavelle has recorded with some of alternative music's biggest names, including Richard Ashcroft and Mr Thom Yorke (check out Rabbit in Your Headlights). We wait...

If you were a Belgian Editors fan on the 7th of this month, you were probably doing a lot more jumping for joy than you were any day previously in 2018. There had been some evasiveness when the question was raised, but there were some substantial rumours that Editors would be taking part in Werchter this year. On Wednesday morning, the band confirmed their participation in Werchter Classic on social media:-
Of course, long time supporters of the band Studio Brussel were on the case and managed to get a quick chat with Mr Smith about the event that same morning.
On the same day the NME posted another in what is hopefully a series of "Song Story" videos. This one was all about Munich, and was surprising and uplifting all at once for the reasons I detailed when I shared it here. I hope they've cast a wider net and done this with more of Editors songs from their past, as well as the ones coming up on VI OLENCE.
Two days later, an acoustic version of Magazine was made available to buy on all the major streaming services. Once again, the rule that Editors songs can work when they're not plugged in was proven. It's a beautiful version of the track made all the more special by that piano work, and the fact that we can actually hear the lyrics even more clearly than on the single version.
The 15th of February brought a conclusion in the form of the much coveted acoustic set for all the #weloveeditors competition winners, something that was streamed online for the masses who missed out on the VI OLENCE album listening party. It provided an introduction of sorts to another new Editors song in the form of Violence. In a truly perverse twist of fate, the gods of internet streaming technology were not with us and for that song and that song alone, the stream died in the middle of the track. Typical.
A true Editors event happened on the 21st as we finally got to hear the full studio take of Hallelujah (So Low). This was on a day which saw the band in Rome, posting various photos from hotels and flights meaning that we got more of Justin's travel documents, which I absolutely love. The band were filming "some stuff" for Italian TV on a show that will air next week on the 8th March. Rest easy in the knowledge that once it's been broadcast, it will be arriving here at the Archive shortly afterwards ;)
Next, there was a photo from what could have been the video for the song, featuring Mr Smith soaking wet (or possibly "visibly perspiring", ho ho) and a tag that read:-

"Hallelujah (So Low) ... imminent ... gonna knock some teeth out ..."
What was all that about? Well, later on in the afternoon it was confirmed that imminent meant "today", and that the song Hallelujah (So Low) would be aired on Annie Mac's Radio 1 show after 7 in the evening. Needless to say, plans were changed and adrenal glands engaged.
The song aired first on Annie's show and then on Gordon Smart's over on RadioX. I won't go into any kind of review here because you've no doubt heard it yourself and made your own mind up, just as I have. There was, however a chat between Mr Smith and Annie Mac and you can listen to that here. If that wasn't enough, then Rahi's video for the song was also released that night. The shot I mentioned earlier of Mr Smith covered in water was in fact from the outtro of that clip, which also saw the band being put under a rain machine. Wednesday the 21st of February was definitely worth staying awake for.
As usual, there were some great Instagram story videos posted including one of Mr Smith on the set of the shoot for Hallelujah (So Low), strumming a tune you've never heard before while he waits to be filmed. It was tagged as "The calm before the storm". I can't help feeling that this will be a very prophetic statement.
Finally, the month ended on an absolute high with a video which, had it been an entry in the #weloveeditors contest, would have been the outright winner without any doubt. I've labelled it "EditorsgoUganda" in the zip file, and if this doesn't dissolve your heart into warm, gooey puddle then there's every chance you're dead/a sociopath. Enjoy ;)
