VI OLENCE Listening Party Acoustic Set 15th Feb 2018

The return of the trucker hat

For all of us poor souls that couldn't make it to the event on the 15th february 2018, Editors decided to Facebook live-stream the acoustic session they performed for the #weloveeditors contest winners. Far from keeping their cards close to their chest, they unveiled a new song on the night. However, if you were watching the stream as it aired, you'll probably have the same overwhelming sense of frustration that everyone else had at that time. More of that in a minute.

In their own consistent way, they made us wait for it. We all tuned in at 7.30 promptly, because punctuality is super-important, and there was...nothing there.

In my head, I figured it all out in a flash. The competition winners were so traumatised and saddened by the extreme levels of gloom on the new record, that the band had to bus in some therapeutic counsellors from the local area to help them cope. The good news is, they got to hear VI OLENCE before anyone else. The bad news is, they'll be talking to mental health professionals for the next couple of years while they work through their issues.

Or maybe it was just a technical fault at their end?

That's actually a more likely excuse because the problems continued during the live stream, resulting in a genuine Editors Moment being ruined. Papillon was fine, but then the whole thing collapsed during what was at the time a brand new song, Violence, before coming back during Smokers. Sometimes technology is there to help you, and other times it will repeatedly kick you in your reproductive organs for shits and giggles. I've done the best I can by joining the two segments of the broken video into one and posting it, but the drop out is quite jarring and very noticeable during Violence. My apologies, this really was a "problem at their end".

The latter half of the set saw Justin and Elliott depart and Mr Smith doing some solo numbers, including the seldom-played TWOYL track The Phone Book
To that handful of people in attendance, I hope it was as much fun for you watching in the room as it was for us tuning in from the telephone wires. Congrats to all of you, and bring back the stories with you. Enjoy the music ;)
