Area 4 Festival 20th August 2010 (video/audio)

Every so often, Editors do a show that produces a run-through of a song that's so utterly spellbinding, it makes any one that came before or after it always fall just a little bit short in comparison. Lightning in a bottle moments like Bones at Hultsfred 2006 or Smokers at Oxegen 2008. In my opinion, Area 4 has within it a sensational version of ERM=BD that could very well wear a badge of "Best Performance" without much of a debate. All four band members wholeheartedly showed up, but Mr Smith commits so completely during ERM=BD that it sounds like his voice is going to fail him at times. Towards the end it starts to get that raspy quality that we also heard during 2015 when he got ill for a prolonged period of time (see the excellent 3ème Gauche Session as an example of fatigue becoming beauty). It's the kind of thing that makes live events so magical; the possibility of something that was great being elevated to new heights, or maybe even crumbling to pieces while you watch. There are other great moments to enjoy here too, like Tom slapping the top of his piano during ITLAOTE with timing so perfect it makes it look like he actually causes the flamethrowers that follow. There's Russell bouncing around and interacting with the crowd, as well as doing his now famous side to side leading of the crowd during ERM=BD.

There's video and MP3s below and an additional interview film in the bonus materials section of the post, enjoy the music ;)

Bonus Material - Interview
This was a bit of backstage banter with Tom and Russell at Are 4 Festival. The topics are the usual fluff talk but then the conversation turns to E4 and the plan going forward:-

Tom - There's no time limit on this, when it's ready it'll be ready and then we'll make it.

If only he'd known how complicated that process would actually be...

brought to you with lots and lots of lemming-love :) x
