One more for the folks over in the States, as we take a trip back to February 2008 when Editors played Tempe Arizona. This was a moment from the deep end of the AEHAS campaign, but it was still at the point in Editor's history when they were building their audience as evidenced by the obvious relief expressed by Mr Smith to the crowd after The Racing Rats:-
It's the first time we've been to this part of the world....erm...it means a lot that anybody's come.
This show was recorded and distributed by desertsky (many thanks to you for your work), and all files are being shared in their original FLAC format in accordance with the taper's wishes.The sound quality is sensational on this recording, with desertsky doing an excellent job of documenting the night.
Just after You Are Fading a member of the audience shouts out a request for Safe Place to Get To (the song he's after is, of course, Find Yourself a Safe Place). Normally that would be an opportunity to get all smug and poke fun at the guy for getting the title wrong, but the implications of that request are pretty profound. He's not requesting one of the more well known songs from the band's back catalogue, but a b-side from the Munich re-release. Considering his location in the world and the reduced availability of Editors material there at the time, certainly in comparison to Europe, that's quite impressive. Fair play to you, sir.
This gig is also your moment to hear the seldom played track Push Your Head Towards the Air with just Mr Smith on his acoustic guitar and King Leetch on the keys. It provides a brief bit of sonic respite for the audience as the man himself says:-
If you don't mind me and Russell, just for a couple of minutes, are gonna slow it down.
