Up next is a show that was done by XFM DJ and long time supporter of the band, John Kennedy, to celebrate the release of An End Has a Start. If you're a regular visitor to the Archive then you'll know that XFM has proved to be a vital outlet for Editors related recordings. This one is essentially 45 minutes of Tom and Russell chatting with John, walking us through every track on the album, giving out lots of info about the usual songwriting process and other little gems (playing hide and seek in the studio, anybody?)
It was originally aired with all the songs on AEHAS being played but, as is the policy here at the Archive of not sharing officially available material, I snuck them out leaving only the chat with the guys, as well as the XFM station idents they did at regular intervals throughout the show.
Among the information we pick up along the way is the revelation that at the time of recording this show in 2007, Weight of the World was 7 years old. If that's accurate then it means it pre-dates Editors, Snowfield and possibly lands somewhere around the time they were either known as The Pride or Pilot ("who's the Pilot?"). That it remained under wraps for as long as it did long is incredible, and I wonder if that would have been the case had the band formed nearer the time when social media has become so prevalent? Being who I am and doing what I do, I cannot help but wonder about other songs that may be off radar but very much in existence. Obviously the "lost tracks" from the In Dream sessions would be top of that list, if they really are anything other than just titles:-

You could very probably drive yourself to the point of mental instability pondering these things too much, something I willingly and cheerfully do most days. Enjoy the show ;)
