South America, you got what you wished for.
On Friday the 7th of August, Editors played what was one of three festival shows that month. It was at Lokerse Feesten in Belgium, and as you might have expected, the pairing of that particular country and this particular band led to something very special. For the full show, go here.
There was a meet and greet at Alaska Studios, Lokeren for 10 lucky fans of the band. Not only did they get a chance to hear the new album Surface, Echo and Sound but Editors were also in attendance.
History will be made in October, as the band announced they will be playing in Colombia at the Rock al Parque festival between the 10th and 12th. If you've ever looked at the comments section of any Editors video, you will often find a plea to visit South America (among other places). It's a long way to travel for a single show, but then this is not unfamiliar to them. On the 17th September, 2005 they were booked to play the "JD Set" festival for up and coming bands. The venue would be Nashville, Tennessee which shouldn't have been a problem. It's a connected world we live in, and travel is as easy as booking a plane, selecting a hotel and making it into a nice mini-break with some work included.
Except...
They were already out on a European tour when they had to play the show. What followed was a continuous journey from Germany to London, then on from London to the USA, where they played the gig before returning to the UK almost straight afterwards. This was, of course, in the days when everyone was a lot younger and in possession of constitutions that could shake off that kind of physical punishment with relative ease. I would imagine the pace will be a little more measured 21 years later. So maybe they'll play a warm up show in Colombia, or the surrounding regions, or this may just be another fleeting flirtation. Whatever happens, this is a trip that I can predict with elevated confidence will be a wonderful experience for everyone involved. The thought of Colombian Editors fans going nuts in person to a band that they've only been able to watch from afar, seems like a blueprint for surefire sonic happiness. Likewise, there's the chance for the whole band to experience a culture that could be completely new to them. Open your arms and welcome...
