What a crappy month this turned out to be.
After 10 years I deleted the Lemming Archive from Twitter/X. It was a tough decision but ultimately it's one that had to happen, given what triggered it. The next short paragraph explains why, if you're interested, and if not just jump down the page a little to go back to the regularly scheduled service.
Elon Musk's recent behaviour changed everything. First, there were those 2 salutes at the Trump Inauguration rally. They were followed by some Nazi-related joke puns in a tweet, and finally an address at the AFD conference. Bear this in mind, all of these three events happened during the lead up to the 80 year commemoration of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on the 27th January. Insensitivity and a wilful lack of cultural awareness are really unattractive qualities, no matter how much money you have in the bank so I pushed the button and severed the connection with his platform. I know that taking the Archive off X will make absolutely no difference to him at all, and will probably reduce the Archive's visibility, but so be it. There's no looking the other way on this. I can't change the world, but I can change my world and I choose not to include this man in it. All future updates will appear on Blue Sky from now on.
If that wasn't enough, the Southside performance by Editors in 2024 was nuked this week due to a copyright breach. New year, same old problems. You can download a copy of the original video in the covert shares section of the Archive.
There was some good news this month, and that's what I'm choosing to end on. Elliott and Russell will be out spinning discs in Spain during February, so if you're in the area head on down and say hi to the guys.
