Editors Instagram - November 2022

It was off the road and back to civilian life for all 6 Editors in November which means there's not a lot to see in this post, I'm afraid. Although there were no concerts, there were some announcements of more festival gigs next year. For all the information you need on the when and where, go see Hannah.

Most of November's photographs and short videos came from Justin and Elliott, but there was also an official promo film released for the song Night Travel by Solomun, that just so happens to feature Tom on vocals.

As I'm writing this, Tom has appeared on Instagram and revealed that he's back in collaboration with Andy Burrows, working on something new from S&B. He also shamelessly plugged the Funny Looking Angels album but then again, 'tis the season and all that. It means that the illusion of inactivity is in fact, just that; an illusion. Tom is clearly not stopping during the rest period between the blocks of touring Editors have been doing.

The fact that most communities have opened up a little more since the last time he worked with Andy, means that Smith and Burrows might even get to reclaim some of the time they were owed when things were not so unrestricted. No touring meant that their second album was denied the kind of introduction to the wider world that is customary to a working band. It removed the essential components of making a direct human connection through playing, and word of mouth resulting from impressing an audience. There's also the fact that, for better or for worse, Smith and Burrows are often seen as a "Christmas Band". Could it be that they're planning on squeezing in a live date or two during the silly season before Editors begin their own 2023 campaign in January?

The last item of news to sneak in across the finish line on the 30th November was the unveiling of the official promo for Picturesque, which proved to be as chaotic and attacking as the song itself. A blizzard of fast-cut black and white concert footage filmed by Ellie Madeland and edited by James from Hand Held Cine Club, with an shortened version of the track over the top. It's a chance to look back on previous live encounters, and also to remind ourselves that more is yet to come in just over a month from now.
