The first of the month saw an announcement from Tom that he was back working with Andy Burrows on some all new Smith and Burrows stuff. As I write, nothing has been revealed but then Andy is a very busy man right now, being a very proficient juggler of ongoing projects including a reunion tour with Razorlight.
Other than that there was no big news concerning Editors. It's understandable given that they are currently between stages, both metaphorically and literally. There's probably been some rehearsals, carefully arranged around civilian life and celebrating the Silly Season.
With the turning of the year its inevitable that we look forward to what's coming next. There's the almost completely sold-out UK tour which will take from the end of January until the first week of February, followed by a date in Turkey. Then it's a few months off before returning to the festival circuit the likes of Pinkpop and Werchter. For all the up to date information on where and when you can catch the band live, Hannah has you covered (as always!).
The world is still an uncertain place, and after 3 years of repeated punishment of the psyche you may have had your stores of optimism depleted to vacant. However, there may genuinely be cause for a reconnection with that neglected state of mind right now. Beyond the imminent UK tour, I expect there will be more dates announced as the year progresses but what has me most intrigued is the prospect, suggested earlier in the year by Russell, that Editors will be back in Mexico in 2023. Great news for fans in that area of the world, but what if this could also a possible facilitator of an excursion to the north? Or, whisper it, maybe even a first trip for the group further south? We shall see.
