Ed and Russell on The Stephen McCauley Show 25th November 2019

Live on BBC Radio Ulster this evening, 25th November 2019, here's on the Stephen McCauley show. This is a guy who must have heard I'd be tuning in, because as I'm setting everything up to record he's already played Ian Brown, and then he drops Far Gone and Out by the Jesus and Mary Chain. Later, he spins Here Comes Your Man from the genius record that is Doolittle by Pixies, Vow from the first Garbage album and on and on it went. Then just after the interview was done, Xtal by Aphex Twin. Taste. You either have it, or you don't. Mr McCauley does. Thank you, Sir for making the wait a lot of fun.

Ed and Russell appeared on the show in a pre-recorded interview from earlier this evening. It's encouraging to hear Ed reaffirming that Black Gold isn't the final word on Editors' journey. It's a weird position to be in, because neither we as rabid fans nor they as the object of our fevered attentions know what's next. Some of the questions are familiar if you've been leaning in and listening carefully lately, but that's to be expected. The thing about this cycle of promotion, is that it will probably slow down as we get nearer to the band rehearsing for the tour. However, once they begin the Black Gold tour next year this will all speed up again. The last few weeks of civilian normality before the climb up sunshine mountain begins once more, and these very sma questions will appear all over again.

There's a certain irony in hearing Joy Division being brought up again and them being asked if they ever got sick of the comparisons, and if they wanted to get rid of them. Ho ho.

As is always the case with these things, commercially released music was played so I snipped and I pruned, and so all we're left with here is the chatter, which I hope you enjoy ;)
