**UPDATED 20th August 2019 - Successfully appealed the decision to block this as streaming audio on YouTube. Link added below.**

The stream for the gig was geo-blocked, which at this time in human history where the internet is actually bringing people of different cultures together, seems to be a little regressive. I confess that my knowledge of music rights is still at a developmental stage (just ask Merlin), but it is so frustrating to know that something like this is happening and you're excluded from the event because of where you live.
Using proxies to view and grab the live broadcast meant that the stream was a little bit laggy. The audio drifted hopelessly out of sync at so many points that it became impossible to fix, and so I had to abandon it. I'm not giving up on it completely, just setting it to one side so I can get the material out there in audio form. I'd also add that it pains me not to have the video because I feel like I've not only done the fans a disservice, but also the band. Hi everybody, I'm Airborne Lemming. I take this bootlegging life very, very seriously...

This is almost the last chance to dance to the VI OLENCE campaign, with it being the penultimate date at the end of a very long and winding promotional road. For the first time, I feel like two things happened. This recording allowed us to appreciate more of the musical intricacies of Frankenstein, but I feel like the first thing that we heard was the band coming to terms with what they've got here and embracing it fully. Even from the earliest live renditions, and over a fairly short space of time you can hear the change in confidence.
Frankenstein has grown (and shrunk slightly, but more of that in a bit) to be something they initially introduced with a "erm...we've got this new thing for you all to try" attitude, to a more "we made you wait, and now it's here!" approach. It's summed up perfectly when Tom says "OK" just before the run up to the second chorus, like he's aware he's setting something up. And of course he is.
There's more crowd baiting in the same style as Papillon, and they've trimmed the ending down to ensure that it's a sleeker beast than ever before. That couple with the second factor, some real crowd participation when they play it, means that as strange as this sounds Frankenstein feels like it's finally become an Editors song. Enjoy the music ;)

SRF 3 Highlights Video
Thank you, Hannah. You're the best ;)
Here's a 30 minute highlight video that was broadcast on SRF 3, coming to us from the Lady of the Boards, and shows Editors doing their thing at Gurtenfestival, 20th July 2019. "Great!", you might be thinking. That means we'll get to see them doing Frankenstein again.
Nope.
For some illogical reason the people that assembled this all-too-brief footage decided that they'd be better off playing it horribly safe, leaning more towards the singles. No Barricades, no Frankenstein. I'm not putting the music down that was selected, there's just a sense that those with the power to air these things weren't as in touch with this band as the rest of us. But then again, who really is? Most sane people listen to music as they go about their lives. For some of us, the music is our lives, consumed as we are.
That's not to say in any way that this is a bad show, far from it. For those of us that were geoblocked out of this party it's a fitting substitute, and a fine addition to the full audio that we already have. There's lots to like. If you were down the front and nestling behind the barrier, there's a high probablility that we saw you during this. Just to make sure that the evening doesn't qualify as a Sunday School class, Tom goes out of his way to swear during Magazine in a spot I don't think I've ever heard him curse. Plus, as I've said before, I'm glad that Nic Willes is getting more screen time because in this light and on this evening at Gurtenfestival, he was an Editor and that should be celebrated as such. Oh, and just in case it's been forgotten, we still miss you Justin. Hope you're well.
Enjoy the music, and remember to thank and curse SRF 3 in equal measures while you do it.
