Thanks to my one of my co-pilot's, Hannah for finding this. I've grabbed it and put it in the Archive for the hardcores, and for future fans that probably don't even know they love the band yet. How's that for forward planning?
On the evening of their show at Gurtenfestival, 20th July 2019 Anna Wirz managed to secure some time with the man on the bass, Mr Russell Leetch. You can tell from the way the questions are asked here that Anna is a fan of this band, particularly the one about Barricades. The opening question of how the band settled on their name was some very clever misdirection on her part, as it seemed initially to be heading down the same alleyways that interviewers always seem to choose. Why did you call the album Violence? Where is Chris? Have you ever heard Joy Division etc. Not so. Anna goes deep.
Russell confirms what we already knew ans that is there are some end of the year announcements coming, more than likely regarding those two unheard tracks from the Jacknife Lee sessions. Also, and if you're really attentive, you'll have noticed a possible verbal tell when discussing upcoming shows.
"This is out last weekend so we've got one more show supporting The Cure in Bucharest and then that's done for a little while, so it'll be a little time before we do another show."
Fans of language and sentence construction will notice that there is no finality here. He doesn't say that they're supporting The Cure and then that's it, which would have only added to the fan anxiety surrounding their ongoing plans. He says they'll be done for a little while, that it will be a little time before they play again. It's both comforting and frustrating, because it sounds like there's more to come but all we really want to know is what's next?
Well done Anna, this is an interesting encounter to listen to. If you'd like to hear the full show that this was a part of, click here. Enjoy ;)
brought to you with lots and lots of lemming-love ;) x
