Radiowa Trójka Session 3rd March 2018

As much as I hate it when these recordings are sat on (remember the Schwuz Berlin video that we waited 200 days for?), it's nice to suddenly remember that there's an upcoming gig that you'd forgotten had already happened but was airing soon. Owing to the increased amount of activity with the band lately, and my general lack of mental acuity at times, that's exactly the situation I found myself in yesterday. I felt sure that there was something I'd made a mental note to go back to, I just couldn't remember what. Well, this was it.

Recorded exactly a week ago to the day, here's Tom, Elliott and Justin taking part in another acoustic radio session as part of their Polish adventure which also saw them play on SNL Polksa

After some introductions and idents for the station, there was a pre-gig interview with the band that has Polish dubbing over the answers. I'm impressed at the way they gave a tip of the hat to the early years as well as focusing in on what's happening now. Over the course of the show they played the studio recordings of Lights and Munich from The Back RoomBricks and Mortar from ITLAOTE and Cold/Darkness at the Door from VI OLENCE. As is always the case here at the Archive, they've been removed so that the band aren't being ripped off.

My Polish is absolutely terrible, but what I can tell you is that the DJ referred to Bricks and Mortar as a "magnum opus". High praise. Next there was a big old gap before another section of the interview was played, then the acoustic goodies appeared. But hot damn, they made us wait. Let's just say that if the idea was to keep any Editors fans hanging around for as long as possible, their mission was accomplished. I've lost count of the minutes and hours of my life I've given to this band, wading through questionable tunes to get to the good stuff. Thank goodness it's worth it.

It's odd listening to this set in comparison with the others of late, because I've become accustomed to hearing an audience cheering after each song. Not so in this case. As you can see from the accompanying photo to this post (borrowed from PIAS Poland's Instagram account) it's literally just the three of them on a stage doing their thing. A radio session by its purest definition. Enjoy the music ;)
