Somewhere in the crowd for Editors' second gig of their three night run
of UK dates back in 2018, GaryUK was in attendance and with typically
altruistic intent, he brought a present back with him. This is his recording of the show at Manchester Cathedral on the 5th March. Once again, thanks very much to you Gary for making this available for the rest of us who couldn't make it. These early stages of the promotional campaign of a new album are the times when the truly committed among us really need to hear the new material played live. Just to get a feel for what's coming next when the album finally shows up. It's very much appreciated ;)
So this is night number two of a set of three, with tomorrow being their Clapham Grand gig in London. All of the UK dates sold out, probably due to the scarcity of the band as a live act here of late. The setlist is the same as last night at Birmingham, but after listening to both nights I can here a distinct effort on their part to increase their live sound and make the most of all the instruments on stage. There won't be any danger of them getting lost on a bigger stage when they go back to Europe shortly, because they've learned how to occupy space that they hadn't explored previously.
There's a moment of sonic teasing after the handclap section of Hallelujah (So Low) when you hear Justin's guitar get switched back on and almost, almost starts to feedback on itself. It's a trick that was used so effectively on the performance at Kendal Calling and gave the song a distinctly dirty edge. So close to sounding sleazy in Manchester. So very close. Enjoy the music ;)
