Even if it is a shortened set due to time constraints, that didn't mean that they were going to drop any of the new songs. Again, I think this confidence in their latest creations is fun to watch as well as being very contagious. I suppose that the further we've gotten into the festival campaign, the more the band are becoming more comfortable delivering these tracks to their audience which plays into that. There seems to have been an attitude change from "Here's something new, if you're interested" to "You're gonna listen", and if that's a statement of how they view the new album then we all have cause for faster heartbeats than usual.
I also believe that this show has the best live version of Halelujah (So Low) that we've been lucky enough to hear so far. It's a monster. The way it's been mixed means that Mr Lockey is more present, and it makes that song and most of the others so much rougher. It certainly makes it feel bigger, and if you have to listen to all the previous versions of the track to hear each member's contribution to the new songs, Kendal Calling definitely belongs to Justin.
Just a word of warning, you don't get to see the band until about one minute into Cold even though you can hear them from the start. Why that happened is anybody's guess but there you go. Enjoy the show ;)

Bonus Material - Interview
Here's Mr Smith and King Leetch being gently grilled backstage at Kendal Calling. True to form, the Lake District provided mud by the wellington boot full, but the guys on vox and bass managed to avoid it. In spite of the brevity, the interview does have some very useful information.
In among the answers given to Peter Donaldson we learn that some of the songs on E6 have actually been mixed, a good sign, and that the aim is to get everything done by September. By the sounds of it, the three new tracks Cold, Hallelujah (So Low) and Magazine aren't finished yet, which does suggest that there was an element of testing them out on an audience to see what's working and what isn't. They also divulge that they're working with Leo Abrahams in London. Mr Abrahams has collaborated with quite a few folks, including ambient pioneer and ex member of the mighty Roxy Music, Mr Brian Eno. Intriguing. Enjoy the chat ;)
brought to you with lots and lots of lemming-love :) x
