Reeperbahn Festival September 26th 2009 (video/audio)

An incomplete broadcast, unfortunately.  The video is missing 2 tracks, Walk the Fleet Road and You Are Fading. I suspect that this was to keep the running time for the web broadcast as close to an hour as possible, but I could be wrong.  It's heartbreaking because the way that those two compositions sound in this light on on this Hamburg evening will make your skin tingle. It's a trio of factors that contribute to this; the audience, the band and the amazing sound on this recording. There have been the odd times in the past where Editors shows have suffered because of some unflattering acoustics or technical anomalies, but when it all comes together and you're able to witness them meeting the potential we all know they possess, it's a beautiful spectacle. Editors at the Reeperbahn has that in abundance.

But hold on there Lemming, you may be saying, if the songs are missing then how on Earth did you hear it? Funny you should ask. I do have both the omitted tracks in audio form from a separate source and I've included them in a set of mp3s available below as proof of my carnival barker style protestations. Those of you who commit to the download won't be disappointed. There's also some bonus materials in the form of 2 interviews done by the band in the month leading up to the gig.
If you made it into the front row at this show then there's a good chance you'll be seeing yourself at points during the set, as the footage features quite a few crowd shots. This performance taken from the ITLAOTE campaign saw them finishing the evening with Bricks and Mortar instead of the usual Papillon or Fingers in the Factories. It feels like they're ending temporarily before they come back on for an encore, rather than it being the completion of something. In bowling terminology, it's like got the dreaded 7-10 split and instead of picking up the spare, they took their rented shoes back to the desk, got their jackets and then decided which curry house to hit. All the while with the last remaining pins are still standing.

Of course, another way of expressing that in a slightly less long-winded style would be to say that B&M doesn't feel like a natural set closer. What can I say? I really like words. Look out for another wonderful Tom Swears moment in the very last line of Munich. Oh, Mr Smith. No decorum.
