As part of Save the Children's "Christmas Jumper Jam", Editors made their final live appearance of 2014 at Union Chapel in London. In terms of preparation four members of the band had already experienced a trial by fire a month prior to this on November the 8th, when their plans for a fully electric Rolling Stone Weekender went out of the window due to some Editor illness. This show saw the return of the once absent Mr Lockey in a miniature re-run of the gig he missed out on, with the whole show being played acoustically. You'll notice that they used the same stage set up as Rolling Stone, with the roses making a return.
At the time there was a certain amount of speculation as to whether or not we'd get another chance to hear the unreleased song Forgiveness again (it had debuted at the penultimate gig of the TWOYL campaign). As it turned out, the set was made up of mostly singles, a cover of The Boss' Dancing in the Dark and a guest slot by previous co-conspirator Mr Andy Burrows for This Ain't New Jersey.

We may not have had any new material but we did get a new twist on an old favourite. This set contains a fourth version of the song Nothing. We've had the string version from TWOYL, the acoustic performances of just Tom and his guitar (or with Russell on keys), the full band version that's a definite live favourite, and now this one with the mandolin. It was a lovely way to end the promotional push for TWOYL, as well as being for a great cause, and a festive sign off before they got down to the business of getting In Dream together.
Street credibility is a fickle thing. Sometimes you have it in abundance and other times you can search from sunrise until sundown and never locate it. I mention this because the see-saw of cool tilts many times for this show. Tom earns a substantial amount of extra style points by wearing a Christmas jumper based on the movie Die Hard for this photo, but then loses them again by looking like the least happy Editor in knitwear. However, he then manages to fix everything with a solid gold excuse for his apparent lack of festive attire when they go onstage by telling the crowd:-
"What you don't know, is that I'm wearing christmas pants."
All cool is instantly restored. Enjoy the music ;)
