There's an interesting segment where live versions of TWOYL songs are being played live, and they have to guess the location of the performance. It's so weird seeing Tom and Russell listening to The Sting from the Royal Albert Hall, and I think it's mostly due to the mythical status that we as fans have placed upon that recording. If you haven't listened to that show already, get busy with the link above. It's too damn good. I'm also very impressed by Tom's bootleg knowledge, given the speed at which he was able to pick out his version of Nothing from the Nashville videos when it's played. Kudos, Sir.
Musically, there is something to be said for just taking everything back to the fundamentals. To remove all the studio garnishing and leave the bare bones to give an idea of how these songs all got started. Tom on guitar and vocals and Russell providing the keys does just that, and it sounds brilliant.
Lastly, and by way of some bonus material, Tom and Russell answer some inquiries sent in by listeners to 3FM. Ahhhh, the general public. Give them an opportunity to ask their favourite bands some questions, to probe the minds of those they admire and they never disappoint you. After all, there's so much to learn in the world and who better to enlighten you than those you hold in the highest esteem? Thrill, as Mr Smith and King Leetch debate a response to inquiries like "Boxers or briefs?", or "Boobs or ass?". You may have only thought it before but this is definitive confirmation once and for all that, as a species, we're an unmitigated and unapologetic disaster. Hooray! Enjoy the collection ;)Musically, there is something to be said for just taking everything back to the fundamentals.
