Tom and Russell interviewed by Tripwire 21st July 2007 (video)

A short 4 minute interview with Tom and Russell for you all now, filmed during a break whilst they were shooting the infamous video for An End Has A Start. I say infamous, because some of the reactions to it were absolutely hilarious when it first arrived in the public consciousness. The song seemed so serious, and it appeared that Tom was dealing with the issues of existence and the solitude of the human condition.

You came on your own, that's how you'll leave....

When it was announced that it would be released as a single, I'm fairly sure everyone had their own ideas of what the promotional video would contain. Possibly filmed in black and white? Maybe with long lingering shots of Tom singing whilst stroking his (prosthetic) beard and looking terribly serious, as the rest of the band stand in the shadows behind him crying softly about the inevitability of their own demise and the futility of life? Surely that's the direction they'd go in?
Or they could film themselves performing the track in a warehouse in Brooklyn, while a group of bored-looking models (who can't dance)  groove around them in dayglo spandex outfits. Hell yeah! As I'm sure I've said a thousand times before, An End Has a Start is my favourite Editors video not only because the song is so good, but because it demonstrates that Editors have a wonderfully silly sense of humour. To find out what it was like filming it, check out this interview with Mr Leetch and Mr Smith:-
