"It's been a long time since we played in Liverpool, and it's good to be back....." - Tom before Bullets
Another audience recording that I don't have a source for, I'm afraid. Sometimes I just get emails from folks with links to zip files but very little information, and that was the case with this gig. Taped by a very kind member of the crowd that night, if this was you then thank you very much. It's appreciated.
This date was in the middle of a European set of engagements which saw them visiting mainland countries and then the UK, having just returned from the United States. They'd also managed to go to Australia, New Zealand and Japan earlier in the year which in these days of 2021's travel restrictions seems absolutely absurd. As I've mentioned before, they really put in the work when they toured their first two records, sometimes to their creative detriment. This really was a golden time to see the band because your chances of catching a show were pretty high, regardless of your geographical residency.
As was the case in most of the 2007 concerts, once they hit the stage it became an exercise in using energy, passion and volume to levitate as much of the crowd as possible. That, or just try to pin them to the back wall of the venue. See Lights as an example. As well as the attacking nature of the music, Editors were in extremely upbeat spirits for this show. Tom in particular is in a chatty, if sometimes surreal mood.
"Grab a lady by the hand, this song is called Weight of the World".
Or when the band play You Are Fading and he says "That went a little bit too Michelle Pfeiffer, I apologise about that." as he chuckles to himself. What that refers to, I have no idea.
As he did on several occasions during this touring campaign for AEHAS, Tom leads the crowd through the intro to Munich, only to be overtaken by them. There's also a little bit of arrangement tampering was he takes one of the later refrains from Smokers and sets it out at the front of the song instead. For all you Editors trivia fans, Tom channels his inner Peter Gabriel as he sings the "Red Rain" refrain again when they perform Spiders.

There are instances when the swirling personalities of Russell, Tom and Chris' guitars cause some pretty chaotic shapes, only to have Mr Smith's vocals pierce them and bring some smoothness and clarity (see Lights again). It means that if you like your Editors loud and playful, this is one for you.
Enjoy the music ;)
