Eurockéennes 30th June 2007 (audio/video)

**UPDATED 3rd DECEMBER 2021 - New source for the video added, radio interview with Chris and Ed is also now available to stream.**

Here's a brand new recording containing the full set of Editors' appearance at Eurockéennes in 2007, and it's an absolute cracker. It was one of three video upgrades passed along to me by a fan recently, completely umprompted and out of the blue, and it's a huge improvement on the version we already had both in terms of the sound and the picture quality. Many thanks go their way for making this available. Random acts of kindness are still such powerful things.
  • The drums. Mr Lay gets quite the workout during this set and if you look closely at a certain moment he's banging the foot pedals with both feet and drumming with both arms. If he was an MMA fighter, his style would probably be Muay Thai.
  •  Tom Smith doesn't need your microphone shield, and if you put one on there he'll pull it off and throw it away in disgust (see the beginning of You Are Fading).
  • The way Mr Smith is testing out his vocal range way before he discovered his falsetto on the TWOYL album. There's also a moment where he's actually growling here.
  • How Russell's bass manages to hold everything up. Powerful King Leetch.
  • The subtlety of Chris dragging the notes rather than just picking or strumming. I've said it before but he does sound like Joey Santiago of the Pixies on occasion, and this is one of them. It's a trick that messes with your equilibrium when you're listening with headphones at a silly volume.
  • It's been a while since I've listened to Escape the Nest, and I remembered just what I love about it all over again. This is a song that still really deserves a place in the setlist, in my opinion.
There are other highlights, including The Weight of the World and the way that they go after The Racing Rats with a passion that would no doubt only slightly diminish after they had to play the song live 55,000 times in the years that followed.

By way of bonus material, if you ever wondered what Mr Urbanowicz would sound like if he was a newsreader, I have an interview that will answer that question for you. Enjoy the show ;)

Bonus Material - Couleur 3 Radio Interview
Taken from around the same time as the Eurockéennes gig, here's Ed and Chris being interviewed in English (with French translation) about touring, writing and weird on-the-road experiences.  There's a great moment towards the end where Mr Urbanowicz does the introduction for the radio station's news show. Classy!  I've also thrown in the 4 photos that accompanied the interview from the website on the day of broadcast.
