Eden Project BBC Radio 6 1st August 2005

It's hard to believe but it was 16 years ago when Editors played this show at the Eden Project. This isn't the full set, just a BBC Radio 6 Highlights broadcast but it's worth hearing purely for its value as a piece of the band's history. It's wonderful to hear them attacking these early songs in a way that you don't hear as much now, with the repetition of touring and rehearsing having drained some of the essence out of the compositions. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not disrespecting the songs or the band in any way, just acknowledging that if you're asked to play even the greatest song hundreds of times year in and year out,  then whatever feeling you got during those initial formative creative stages is bound to be diminished slightly.

I will say that it's disconcertingly bizarre  hearing Fingers in the Factories ending the way it does. As I've said before, I tend to listen to Editors live recordings all the time and far more than their studio counterparts. The more time I spend with the most recent shows means that the nuances of the old ones get forgotten, so much so that they're sometimes a shock when I hear them again years later. I'm so used to hearing Fingers collapsing into a blizzard of feedback at the end that to hear it just.......stop is like having a trippy flashback of some description. "Oh yeah, it did used to end that way!". Enjoy the music ;)

This is the pop quiz that took place between Keane and the band on radio with Steve Lamacq hosting. The broadcast contained a song by Mystery jets on the playlist which was broadcast in full. I've removed it here to leave only the Battle Royale between the tag team of Mr Urbanowicz and Mr Smith, and their worthy opponents Tom and Tim from Keane. Who will stretch out on the sunny shores of victory and who will know only sorrow and lamentable, very public humiliation? Listen in and find out...
