The month opened with the band playing a sold-out gig at the Leadmill in Sheffield. The day after, they landed at the recently reopened Brixton Academy in London, and it's funny to compare their attitudes in 2024 to when they made their debut 19 years ago in 2005. A post on Instagram now describes it as "their London home", whereas in 2005 they were much more guarded in their praise. To quote Tom from the stage just before Munich was played:-
"This is the first time I've been to Brixton Academy. It's alright."
They were different times, of course, as Editors were a completely different band. Back then, the knowledge gained from touring (and the potential road-burnout it brings) was still classified as being "in development". Having spent 20 years accumulating experiences all over the world, it makes sense that they would now be better positioned to compare the various venues they've tenuously occupied.
Next stop was the Warm Up festival in Murica followed by Deleste, then it was on to Germany before returning to Spain to end the month at Tomavistas.
June will see the band playing at Southside and Hurricane during the same weekend, which should be a blast. There's lots to look forward to ;)
