One Night in Colombia - Rock al Parque 12th October 2026

As far as vicarious feelings of joy goes, this was a pretty good one to experience.

This was Editors marking a significant milestone in their history, as they finally made it to South America for a show. It had been talked about for years and as such a lot of fans had been waiting with an admirable amount of patience for this to happen. On the 12th October 2026, Editors played Bogotá for the first time.

Bad news first. The stream had some minor glitches here and there, particularly during Sugar for some reason. If a better source is put out there then I'll obviously replace this one. It's still very, very watchable so in the interest of getting the show out there to the people that need to see it, I'm sharing it here.

What you'll notice from watching this gig is the rain. I watched the stream for a few hours before Editors played and it was absolutely pouring from the sky for most of the other acts too. On occasion it's illuminated by the stage lights and it looks like sparks from a welding torch flying past. There's also a time when Tom drops his microphone into what looks like a rather wet part of the stage during Papillon, only to retrieve it shortly thereafter. I instinctively tensed, feeling sure he would disappear in a blue flash from facilitating an impromptu meeting between electricity and water but no, the front-man endures.

As you would expect from a set that only lasted an hour, it was packed with the more well know numbers. There wasn't really a slow interlude at all, in the way that No Sound but the Wind or No Harm would bring the pace back down again at other shows, giving everyone a chance to catch their breath.

This line up is very strong as a live proposition. I did find it slightly trippy that during the older songs from albums 1 - 3, half the band onstage were playing songs from a time before they were even in the band. An equal personnel split, 50/50.

There's some fun things to watch out for during the set. In no particular order:-

  • Tom flashes the crowd (torso only)
  • Cameo from Flick Hall
  • Tom and Justin have a shoulder-shoving contest during All the Kings
  • Read the sign held up by a fan during Sugar. Melts the heart.

This is a concert that had strong potential to unfold in very weird ways, like when they played Maxidrom 10 years ago. Back then it was predominantly a rock audience and they did a lot of defensive staring, which resulted in minimal connection between band and crowd. Even though Rock al Parque  is a festival that also heavily features more artistes from that genre,  the symmetry between both parties actually seemed to increase as the show progressed. Papillon won them over, but then that's what it does.

It's comforting to know that we're separated by distance, but people in South America like sad songs too.

MP3s to follow, enjoy the music everyone ;)
