We all knew it was happening, and now we know it's happening soon. Tom Smith has stepped out of the group he founded over 20 years ago to test the waters of free agency...but there's a twist. According to a mail drop yesterday, Editors' 8th album is going ahead. Also included in that info-burst was the following information, and I've included the link in case you missed it:-

So what's interesting about that is the mention of tours, merch and more. That doesn't make it sound like it's a small concern that's being undertaken. He's given himself a logistical juggling act (in the absolutely best possible way creatively), in that he could be touring by himself whilst also manufacturing another record by Editors. An noble act of self-imposed schizophrenia which does give me a little cause for concern. Editors are no strangers to flirting with burnout, and if you studied your history you'll be aware of when these times were. The last thing I would want is for him to be ground into dust as he's pulled in several directions, relentlessly spinning plates in the name of art. I trust that wisdom garnered from experience and a solid support network would prevent this from happening. He appears to have some very good people around him.
