After all the waiting and wondering, a clip of Tom singing an unreleased song shuffled its way online on the 8th June 2025. It may well be a possible taster for his long-rumoured debut solo record, which was hinted at by Ed in a backstage interview last year at Montreux.
Tom has set up a TikTok account under the name lightsofnyc, and made this his debut communication with the world by sharing this. It's an acoustic song referencing New York, and it should be noted that it's not the first time he's mentioned that city. It also appears in the opening line of "A Ton of Love" by Editors, where he blatantly references a long-rang moment of arson from Vienna. That he was never arrested for that admission is still baffling.
The footage raises more questions, of course. Is this the title track of the new album, or is he recording and releasing under that name "Lights of NYC"? We wait.
