Things sure are quiet, aren't they?
I don't want to go too far out on a limb here, and feel free to consult other sources with more information than I have, but I think we can now conclude that the band are officially on a hiatus. There was activity from Justin and Elliott, Blanck Mass is preparing for the release of his soundtrack to the second season of TV show The Rig, but other than that we have nothing new to abate the inevitable Editors withdrawal symptoms we're all shaking our way through.
After the reveals from last month that gave more details of a possible new project from Tom, there's been nothing further. In the past, there was usually a reference point from recent history that indicated what was coming next. Who could forget Bones being played during the 2006 tour cycle a year before it made it to an official release, or Nothing appearing fully-formed and ready to make you bounce up and down repeatedly before TWOYL came out? It was a morsel, no doubt, but at least you knew it would be included in the eventual meal that you would be invited to greedily feast upon during the next album release. Even if Clint Mansell did trade its energy for shimmering beauty when he arranged it, and inadvertently started a miniature civil war among fans. On that note, wanna hear something scary? That was just under 12 years ago. Yikes!
Essentially, as fans, we have no point of reference that would at least allow us to approach the future with even the smallest amount of certainty. The overbearing questions on the table remain, how long will Editors be away for, and is there in imminent solo/collaboration from Tom? Also, will there be any live dates this year in either iteration? I get the feeling that when the news arrives, it will be as a whole and remove any speculation on all fronts.
