Rotterdam 6th October 2022 (ONE8UNG Recording)

It's been a while since we managed to get such a great series of recordings of an Editors tour. This one comes to us courtesy of  ONE8UNG, and captures the band playing in Rotterdam on the 6th October 2022. Remember how excited we all got for the Milan show recently, because it was professionally recorded by Virgin Radio Italy and allowed all the instrumentation to stand out individually. I'm going to whisper this, and you're free to disagree and claim it's just hyperbole from a totally biased source  but...

...this is even better.

No DJ chatter, just the music presented in its most pure form. From the first song, you can literally hear everything that's being played. The guitars sound more nasty, the machines more forceful, and the main and backing vocals are more audible than they have been all month on this tour.

It's ridiculously good, and I'm aware even as I proof read this back to myself that it sounds like I'm a carnival barker making stuff up so I can sell you something but you need to remember one thing;  everything here at the Archive is free. ONE8UNG, you did an incredible job here and thanks for making it available. All the files below are being shared in their original format, unaltered, in accordance with the taper's wishes. That's also the reason I'm not converting it for streaming on YouTube, but sometimes it's nice to go old-school and just grab the show as FLAC audio files.

Aside from the sound quality, this recording also let out a little bit of an insider secret. There was something that had never crossed my mind, even though it definitely should have, but it was how on Earth do they get all that electronic equipment and those conventional instruments to co-exist in the same tempo every time? Was there a way to keep all parties in sync with each other?

It turns out there is, and it's really simple.

If I'm right, this bootleg appears to have been taken from the live monitor feed that the band use in their ear-pieces on stage. I suspect this because there's a click-track running all the way through this show, except on some of a few songs including when Tom goes solo for Nothing. You don't hear it if you're in the audience, but it clearly allows the band and the equipment to maintain the same pace at all times. As the've said in interviews, they've tried to make machines sound human, while also taking tricks and techniques that were normally utilized in the studio out onto the road with them. In this instance, I don't mind being given a look behind the curtain to see how the magic happens because it just makes it even more fun. For me, anyway. These are just the kind of giddy thrills I derive from being a nerd for this group.

Enjoy the music ;)
