For such a short note, this post has been rewritten so many times it's ridiculous and I'm still unhappy. Anger, sadness and frustration aren't the best fuel for putting coherent thoughts together. This entry has been abandoned rather than finished.
The Lemming Archive as an entity in itself isn't a place for politics and, frustratingly, I don't possess the breadth of knowledge to be able to comment at even the shallowest of levels regarding what's currently taking place. Since the last Editors' Instagram post covering January 2022, the world really has changed again. If you longed for something else to worry about after Brexit and 2+ years of Covid, well, you got it.
Although February was another silent stop on this blindfolded journey that we're all on as Editors fans, March is where all that should be changing. They have their first gig in a long, long time at Maia Compact Records Fest in Portugal on the 20th. Logically, they should be spending a lot of time rehearsing and getting stage ready right now, which probably explains their lack of social media presence. So while there's live music to look forward to, with a potential for road testing new songs, there's the persisting question of what they'll look like when they return. This will be a headline slot after 2 years of not being in front of a crowd, and having experienced all of the false starts and disappointments within that time, you wonder how that will manifest?
I also wonder how all the latest global instability will impact Editors' future touring plans. At the moment, the majority of their upcoming gigs
take place in mainland Europe, and the potentially precarious nature of
moving from country to country has to be a concern. Who know what
things will look like in a month from now? Will it be safe to travel? One way or another, and good or bad, we'll have answers soon enough.
