Editors Instagram May 2020

"Whatever, man." - Tub Cat sums May 2020 up perfectly

As with the opportunities to experience all those regular day to day living activities that are currently missing from our lives, the social media presence by the band was at a minimum during May. It meant that there was very little to collect and bring your way, unfortunately. Then, and acting as just a little more weight for your already bruised fan shoulders, there was also the official announcement that the band's attempts to reschedule shows in Greece had failed. All in all, things were pretty grim and it's fair to state that 2020 is shaping to be the official gap year that nobody wanted to take, or even enjoyed while they had it.

However, that's not to say that nothing happened.

On the 18th the band released the next step in the plan to get the excellent You Are Fading collection online for the first time, with part 2 finally getting it's streaming debut.

The 20th brought us a very good interview with Justin to enjoy, one that managed to stay within the lockdown regulations but still traverse the miles between Mexico and Yorkshire thanks to Cesar Rosas

Lastly, on the 24th there was the announcement that the band had made a donation towards a raffle raising money to fund buses and vans being parked up at hospitals, and acting as respite areas for frontline NHS staff. Anyone who thought they'd seen the last of Tom's touring boots was in for a treat, as they pulled a Lazarus and reappeared for just one last time as a potential prize.

I still reckon that with the amount of DNA left in those boots would make it possible to clone Editors' frontman. We could make two versions of Tom, but alter their vocal capabilities in the engineering process. Then they could do acapella sets with the real Mr Smith during live shows. A kind of downbeat Bee Gees but with better hair, and disco trousers that aren't so tight you feel relieved he made the decision to have kids before he started wearing them.
In the end the raffle was eventually won by a gentleman called Phil Petts and although we have his name, his potential plans for possibly creating his own army of gangly gloom hounds using the boots as raw materials is unclear at this time. We can only wonder...

Short and snappy, enjoy what we got from May 2020.
