MuzoFM Interview with Tom, Justin and Elliott November 2019

Another great interview with the three amigos of angst and despair as Tom, Justin and Elliott make pleasing jaw movements with MuzoFm, alerting the worldwide consciousness to the existence of Black Gold. Unlike the usual car-wash style encounters where they just breeze through a media outlet, hit the relevant points and then split, MuzoFM managed to get a little more time than the others with the band and they made it count. They also did it in a really clever way by remembering that sometimes, interviewing a band isn't about you.

The lady doing the hosting here spends very little time talking, preferring to pose the questions and then just withdrawing enough to let Tom, Justin and Elliott occupy the vacuum that her silence has left. It's a brilliant tactic, because there are instances where you can see the band going in and really thinking about what it is they're trying to get across. It's something that's often lost when the pace is rapidly staccato, patterned on the constant need to keep things going quickly in the pre-determined direction of the person requesting the knowledge. As a for-instance, there's a section at around 22 minutes that deals with topic of pressure. The question yields some information that we hadn't heard up until now; the doubts that came along with the recording of the VI OLENCE album. The party line so far has been that at this time in their lives, Editors have got it cohesively together enough to be able to rely on their abilities to make another record. Their confidence is evident, and it was previously implied that this came from the experiences of recording those three albums together. They had arrived at a familiarity with their potential, and how to work it to a satisfying reality, but we have never been privy to any negativity that accompanied that learning process. As Tom says:-

"There were times when making VI OLENCE where there was a bit of confusion stylistically where we were going..."

We got this because they were allowed the space and the time to share it, something rare in these kinds of transactions. Good job, MuzoFM. Enjoy 30 minutes in the company of Editors ;)
