More auditory documentation from the ghost at the barrier, Mr GaryUK. Thanks again to you for this, Gary. This time it's a recording of one of Editors' several "homecoming" shows (Kitchenware Records used to be here just up the road from the Haymarket bus station). The technical gremlins appear to have been in the room for this one, resulting in both Belong and Cold being dropped from the performance. It was confirmed by our man in the room that something was off, we just don't know what. However, even after losing those two tracks we still get to hear Back Room favourite and previous set closer Open Your Arms again which is great. There's a sense of their history being readily available to them, in that they aren't afraid of going way back to the beginning.
Ocean of Night has had a makeover, with the acoustic intro being scrapped in favour of a more electronic approach with the beginning and ending. I wonder if this hints at a possible fluidity to the set that means they'll be deviating from it on certain nights, performing new arrangements or including songs that haven't been played live with them as a five piece yet? Tunes like When Anger Shows, Escape the Nest or The Big Exit? We shall see. Also, can you imagine how good The Pulse would sound in these more intimate venues? It was a big number on the festival stages but I think it would roll right over an audience that's up close.
Enjoy the music ;)
