RMX Radio Interview with Tom and Elliott 21st May 2018

Gonzalo Oliveros chats with Mr Smith and Mr Williams about their gig in Mexico at Festival Marvin on the 19th May 2018, as part of this feature on RMX Radio. There's also the usual chatter about how VI OLENCE came to be, and the differences between Editors way back when and Editors now. The audio is a little bit hinky, maybe due to microphone placement, because the normally soft-spoken Mr Williams sounds even more distant. There's also something that doesn't happen very often here, in that Mr Smith actively discusses his family. In the past he's usually shut that kind of inquiry down ruthlessly and quickly (see this clip from Rockness 2008), but not this time around. It's difficult to say if 10 years later he's more at ease with this line of questioning, or if he was just caught off guard and felt too polite to retreat backwards down the avenue of interview frostiness. Smart money is on option 2.  I don't suspect this will be a regular thing, though,  because as recently as last week we were reminded by King Leetch that Tom doesn't like to talk.

If we're being candid, I'm not that keen on hearing about the band's family any way. It's nothing to do with me. In an age where privacy is eroded and given away freely, I like the comfort offered by a separation between who they are as musicians and performers and their role in civilian life. It shouldn't be an additional item for consumption. That's just my take on it.

The original broadcast included the studio take of Hallelujah (So Low) which you'll hear Tom introduce, but it's been removed here in the interests of not ripping off the band. Enjoy the chatter ;) x
