The X Factor Italy Nov 21st 2013 (video/audio)

**Links Updated 1st September 2016**

I originally made this available elsewhere a little while ago through the Archive's Italian connection, Mari. This was mostly because I was playing catch-up posting the recordings of their last UK tour, so I knew it would be a little while before I got it online here. Here's Editors' performance on the Italian version of The X Factor, and if there was any kind of doubts about the kind of pop circles they're moving in right now then this pretty much removes them. We all know that Mr Smith wrote What is This Thing Called Love  from TWOYL specifically as a potential X-Factor track, so it's not really a shock to see them in this guest slot.......yet it's still a curious experience when compared to the kind of acts we normally see on the show. I think it's especially true here in the UK where it's devolved into an exercise in cruelty at the early stages, followed ultimately by fleeting fame and then quick disposal before the next intake arrives.

So here they are performing A Ton of Love in a slightly strange environment but, in my opinion, subverting the mainstream to grab some fans that may have otherwise not caught you or your music can only be a good thing. Plus, it's in Italy for goodness' sakes! Why in the hell would you ever turn down the opportunity to go there? Enjoy the music ;)

There's video, audio, and also a fan-shot video of the track for you all to grab using the links below (it was blocked on YouTube, unfortunately). Check it out:-

When I originally posted this, I was super-careful to not name the taper or provide directions to their youtube profile. This was purely as a protective measure, because I didn't know if the fact they'd recorded from the audience might invoke hassle if the producers of that show found out. The last thing I want to do is cause any problems for another fan. However.......

The taper got in touch and has assured me that it's a-OK to post a link to the original youtube page for this clip, and I'll also throw in a description she generously provided to go with it:-

"I've been lucky enough to get a ticket to the live show last Thursday (I live in Milano) and I was seated quite near the stage so I could film with my iPhone the whole thing. Maybe not the best video quality but the sound is pretty good I think. They performed A Ton of Love, I guess because it was their most recognizable single this year ( it aired a lot on Italian radio stations) and most fit for that kind of show but except for me and the lovely group of people of the fan club Editors Italy it looked like no one in the public had a clue of who they were and indeed their performance wasn't really applauded much. The interview part was pretty short, the host Mr. Cattelan, was gracious enough to let the band know that he was excited to have them there, that he was a huge fan and stated that he would go to every city in Italy to see them play. He asked Tom about a new tour date in Italy and Tom said February 28th. Tom was smiling all the time but didn't talk much, only tried and say "grazie" then seemed like he didn't know what to say but in the end he was all hugs with Cattelan. They stayed on stage only for 6 minutes!!! Anyway here's the video, enjoy!!!: "

Thanks very much for the video and the story of your experience of the show, Miss D. It's very much appreciated :)
