Before they became lured in by the sinister appeal of shuffleboard backstage and in bars, Editors gained a reputation as being pretty damn good at table tennis. Mr Leetch in particular was supposed to be quite the player, often inspiring fear in support bands who dared to challenge him to a game.
Now I hate to do this just as the band seem to be finding their feet as a 5 piece. There's a new album to share with the world and they're really getting into their stride in terms of their live shows, but some truths need to be examined no matter what time it is. I have in my possession a short video which would seem to cast doubt on Russell's table tennis abilities. As with anything of this nature, I would ask that you approach the clip with an open mind and then decide for yourself after seeing it.
The idea for the film was very simple. Ed would be the man behind the camera, filming Tom and Russell doing a short ident for their upcoming festival slot at Music Valley Festival Pingu in China, on the 1st of May 2011. Tom would do the talking, and Russell would hit a table tennis ball to camera at the end. A simple task for a man in possession of his skills with a bat. Nothing could possibly go wrong...
