Editors Instagram - June 2018

After the long-haul flights that took the band overseas in May, the schedule reduced slightly to a mere 6 festival dates throughout Europe in June. That's not to say that there was space to relax or reduce the intensity, because those 6 shows were at well established and well attended venues such as Pinkpop, Maifeld and OpenAir. It means that a lot of the photos in this collection are on-the-road shots, including some more of Justin's terrific airport pictures.

In terms of their live performances I feel like there's something in the air with Editors right now. As I mentioned before I think their decision not to stay out on the road for months at a time on this campaign has enabled them to hit multiple peaks in succession, because they're allowing themselves time to recover and appreciate being civilians again. It means that every live engagement feels like an event right now, an occasion that they seem to be able to rise and meet every time. Lots of energy, lots of fun. It bodes well for the upcoming festival dates in July as well as that monumental date with The Cure at the weekend. Although, if the current heatwave continues then I think you'll have a hard time convincing the goths to come out into the sunshine and watch the set. Natural light is our enemy because it ruins our pale, pale skin by giving it colour and vitality. Yikes!
The 21st saw members of Editors take another trip with Oxfam to a camp in Belgrade, as part of Refugee Week. Here's what they said about it:-

"Tom, Ed and Elliot paid a visit to Obrenovac transit camp in Serbia yesterday as part of Refugee Week. The camp hosts around 700 male refugees and migrants, many of whom hope to reach other European countries but have been trapped in Serbia for months or years on end. They met some aspiring musicians living in the camp and saw Oxfam’s vital work supporting refugees.

Thousands of refugees from Syria and other countries passed through Serbia in 2015 and 2016 before countries in eastern Europe started closing their borders. Today around 4,000 refugees and migrants live in 18 camps across Serbia or sleep rough. Oxfam and its partners have documented extreme abuse of refugees at the hands of border guards in Hungary, Croatia, Macedonia and Bulgaria.

On a human level, it's quite hard to ignore people risking everything to leave their homes. To make that decision to go and not quite know where you're going to get to, how you're going to get there, what's going to happen to you - I can't imagine the amount of strain that puts on a person, on a family, on your relationships, to go on that journey.

Tom"

Unfortunately, there's no updates on the current state of the Archive after the legal hassles I experienced at the beginning of the month. Unlike YouTube where copyright strikes expire after a given amount of time and good behaviour, thus making it possible to avoid the dreaded third one by keeping a low profile, Vimeo has no such system in place. The only way to avoid a disabled account is to persuade whoever complained to withdraw their objection. I've reached out the to offended parties again just to try and get some dialogue going about this, but they're still completely ignoring me. So the Archive remains precariously balanced on the cliff edge, waiting for that gentle nudge from someone who takes issue with what goes on here. I'll keep doing what I can while I can ;)
