A short while ago, "a website" (who's name shall remain unspoken) broadcast live from Editors Lyon show on the 25th April 2018. It was somewhere that I was unfamiliar with but I was looking forward to ripping the stream and sharing it with a wider audience here at the Archive. A few of us gathered around whatever devices we had with internet connectivity and waited. As we did, it became apparent something was very strange about this site. Yes, you could hear the show just in a very inconvenient way which caused you to miss parts of it at regular intervals. Here's how it played out.
You couldn't listen to constant streaming audio, just one minute at a time. If you wanted to hear more, you had to reload the page. This of course meant that there was a brief pause in the action and you missed some music. No problem, we thought, they're recording it so they'll no doubt make it an "on demand" item. Right? Nope. After it was all over they couldn't offer the gig on replay because of copyright issues. However, you could listen to a single minute of An End Has a Start, but nothing else. Quite how the mechanics of this are supposed to work and actually encourage people to use the site is a mystery to me. It was as sketchy as hell and it did seem like this concert was now in the wind and lost forever.
