Well here's a thing, Tom in conversation with the NME again. Relations between the two parties involved here definitely seem to have thawed from "frozen and remote" to "lukewarm and slightly cautious". I don't believe this kind of thing could have happened 10 years ago because I think the NME were still very dismissive of Editors as 80's goth rip-off merchants (gangly gloom hound, Boy Division etc etc). We're at a point now, though, where their longevity has perhaps afforded them the opportunity to finally be taken seriously and judged on their own terms by that publication?
This was clearly recorded on the day that Mr Smith did the NME Facebook Q&A because the outfit he's wearing is the same. Here, he lifts the bonnet and delves into the components that make up the new Editors single, Magazine. We learn about its origins way back in the Chris era of the band, and how it was constructed.
