For three weeks in January of 2007, Radio One let a selection of bands take over the airwaves each night to cover Zane Lowe's evening show while he was on holiday. As you might have already guessed, Editors were one of the groups selected and this is their session. They put together a playlist of their favourite tunes and also took questions from listeners, along with some from Zane himself. Originally, the broadcast lasted for 2 hours. However, the Archive is a self-policing area of the interwebs where I don't share things that bands can make money off, so with that in mind the songs that were played (and the station promos) have been faded out. This means that it now clocks in at a very manageable 27 minutes instead.
I must confess that there were times when cutting out the music evoked a physical pain. Removing Let Down by Radiohead, for example, felt like committing a heinous crime as did trimming down Cherry Coloured Funk by the Cocteau Twins. My only hope is that you'll check out the full list of songs played, which I've listed below, and perhaps go investigate the bands yourself.
There's a lot to listen to and some information you were possibly unaware of relating to your favourite band. Did you know, for example, that the version of Bullets you hear on The Back Room is actually a demo? Or that one of their first tracks was called "Ba-Ba"? Also, listen out for the very knowing dig at the NME just before they played the track by Spiritualized. Ouch! Gloomy cats with fearsome claws. Enjoy the show ;)
