On quite a few occasions during the ITLAOTE campaign, Ed and Chris were assigned promotional duties together. Here's one of them, which was subtitled "Un Café Avec ... Editors!". It was filmed in Paris by 3ème Gauche, who also manged to be present 5 years later to record the finest acoustic version Life is a Fear from In Dream Editors have ever done.
If you watch enough of these press skirmishes then you'll notice some familiar questions regarding ITLAOTE, as well as the formation of the band and their choice of name. There's a sense that Mr Urbanowicz and Mr Lay have both been here several times before and so the energy levels are quite low. However, there's a rapid fire section at the end of it all that sees the two interviewees at their most animated, and also had me running to google to search out Marion Cotillard, who I've never heard of. My knowledge of French actresses is woefully shallow (Beatrice Dalle from the movie Betty Blue and Caroline Proust from the excellent TV show Spiral is pretty much it, I'm afraid).
There are French subtitles throughout for our friends over the water, but I just need to clear something up. There's a minor translation issue during the segment where Chris reveals what's on his ipod. "Cary Wolter" and "George Colin" should actually read "Cabaret Voltaire" and "George Carlin". One is a Sheffield band who shared a label with a plucky bunch of sunshine kittens called Depeche Mode, the other is one of the best stand up comedians ever to walk the Earth.
Also, there are moments where you'll have to adjust the volume slightly, because Mr Urbanowicz has the microphone held just a little bit beyond the range of Mr Lay. Aside from that, it's all good.
Listen carefully for the wonderfully blatant lie from Ed about how they all met, as well as a Freudian slip made by Chris at the 3 minute mark. They denied it for years but it's what we suspected all along...
